St James’ Primary School Hall
Kotara, NSW (2010)
Due for completion November 2010.
This building is big, and necessarily so! During the planning stages, there was considerable pressure from the authorities to reduce the ‘scale and bulk’ of the proposal. But is this correct?
The building is about events and staging those events. It’s a building that houses large gatherings. It’s an important building that serves a specific social function.
I can imagine approaching the collonaded terrace from below, the roof made to float on light, and being taken by the sense of the occasion.
